Ketoprak Art is one of the nation's cultural heritages that must be preserved and maintained. As a form of cultural preservation, we intend to organize a Ketoprak performance titled “Rara Lembayung Cendhana Sari Kasih Ibu.” This performance aims not only to entertain but also to convey moral messages and cultural values to the community.
Ketoprak is a noble cultural heritage that has grown and developed in Yogyakarta. The performance not only tells historical stories or legends but also contains noble values about life, love, struggle, and morality, which remain highly relevant to Javanese society today.
However, with the flow of globalization and the surge of digital-based popular culture, the younger generation’s interest in traditional arts has significantly declined. Ketoprak, which used to be the main entertainment for the community, is now gradually being replaced by instant and digital shows.
In response to this condition, the Wisanggeni Traditional Art community feels called to present a performance that not only preserves the traditional form of Ketoprak but also revives the collective spirit across generations to love and preserve Javanese culture. Therefore, we are initiating a Ketoprak performance titled “Rara Lembayung: Cendhana Sari Kasih Ibu.”
A distinctive feature of this performance is the involvement of Sanggar Sunu Aji Sleman, a cultural art studio whose members are mostly children and teenagers from elementary to high school levels. Their participation symbolizes the real spirit of regeneration and early cultural preservation. This studio will present live gamelan music accompaniment, creating an authentic atmosphere deeply rooted in the original Ketoprak tradition.
Moreover, this event is supported by resources from students of Sanata Dharma University who collaborate with youth from Donokerto Village, Turi, as the organizing committee. This activity becomes an important opportunity for students to engage directly with the community through performing arts, as well as to develop social sensitivity, organizational skills, and make tangible contributions to preserving local culture.

I am a Master’s student in Performing Arts Management at Sanata Dharma University, with a strong focus on preserving and nurturing my cultural heritage. With an undergraduate background in History Education, I am deeply committed to safeguarding and developing traditional Indonesian arts through innovative and sustainable arts management approaches.
As a practitioner and researcher of traditional performing arts, especially Ketoprak and Jathilan, I actively participate in various cultural activities in Yogyakarta and its surroundings. I believe that performing arts are not only a form of entertainment but also a powerful medium for education and reinforcing cultural values within the community, particularly among the younger generation.
Through my studies in performing arts management, I strive to combine management knowledge with my passion for culture to create effective preservation programs and enhance public appreciation and engagement in traditional arts.
