About the event

Welcome to our 1st annual Chicano Hollywood Film Festival! Our goal is to celebrate Chicano & Latino storytelling through film and new media. CHFF will offer a fantastic opportunity for undiscovered, unheard, and under represented filmmakers to showcase their achievements on the big screen in the entertainment capitol of the world!

Our mission is to spotlight the power of our culture, champion diverse talent, and provide a prominent platform for the discovery and exhibition of innovative work in film, music, the arts, and technology.

Our program will include scheduled blocks of films, pilots, documentaries within the various categories of competition and we will also be simultaneously hosting the Chicano Hollywood Academy which will offer live classes in the areas of acting, producing, directing and writing. 

With opportunities to learn, network and enjoy entertaining projects the Chicano Hollywood Film Festival is designed to be an elevated experience for both experienced and aspiring content creators.

Chicano Hollywood is a movement that is dedicated to showcasing Chicano stories and talent in the entertainment industry. There are over 40 million Chicanos (Mexican descent) in the US and another 10 million of those that are “Chicano culture” that must be genuinely represented to a society that has negatively stereotyped us. We strongly believe that our stories must be told in our voice and with our faces for that stigma to truly change. We are dedicated to represent the Chicano voice in every space of culture because if we don’t others will continue to box us in a negative way.

Chicanos/Latinos are the largest minority in the US and soon to be the majority. We were here first but for some reason we are last. That must change and together we can change it. Chicano Hollywood is the first media company dedicated to elevating, entertaining and empowering the 40-50 million English speaking Americans that identify as Chicanos or with Chicano culture. We are a movement that will united Chicano creators with the Chicano audience to establish a platform that is by us and for us.

Johnny Murillo

My name is Johnny Murillo and I am the founder of Chicano Hollywood. The first part of my career I was a pastor for 23 years but the last 17 years Ive been a producer in Hollywood producing commercials, music videos, films and digital series.

Our movement started on the film set of, "Horchata With Oat Milk" a comedy teling the story of a family that was losing their home to gentrification. It was on that set that I nickenamed them, Chicano Hollywood. During our time of production I realized that the crew and cast love the affirmation and begin to identify with the sentiment that we are Chicano proffessionals and in this game called Hollywood. That was 4 years ago and since then we have over 100k followers across our platform and multiple initiatives that are aimed and platforming the Chicano voice in every space of culture. 

My mission and the mission of our team is to create a bridge from those in the barrio (marginalized neighborhoods) to the entertainment industry. Our primary base is in Los Angeles but we have chapters throughout the nation and soon internationally. The Chicano voice is growing and breaking barriers and borders and with the momentum we have I know that our movement is destined to empower not only younger generations but older as well. We have annual training events, zoom training, master classes, a magzine and our annaul, "Elevate The Latino Voice" converence where over 500 content creators, filmmakers, actors, writers, producers and directors gather together to share milestones, tips and leadership skills to grow in this industry.
